How is Natural Red Palm Oil different from other palm oil?
Most readily available palm oils in the US have been refined, bleached and deodorized. Therefore most of the powerful nutrients have been stripped away or destoryed. Wilderness Family Naturals Natural red palm oil still contains these powerful nutrients and maintains its original dark red-orange color not found in the cheap refined products.
This Natural Red Palm Oil has been cooled to room temperature which allows the stearic acid to solidify and causes the fatty acid profile to be higher in fat soluble vitamins and lower in saturated fats (which have solidified and dropped out). This results in fatty acids with a very rich red-orange color that is much darker than standard low quality or crude red palm oils. These crude low quality palm oils contain lower levels of carotenoids, tocopherols and tocotrienols and higher percentages of stearic acid. Also, the taste of our palm oil becomes very mild and its shelf life is greatly lengthened.
Natural Red Palm Oil contains high levels of carotenoids (vitamin A), tocopherols (natural vitamin E) and contains tocotrienols. It contains roughly 50% naturally occurring saturated fats and 50% unsaturated fats. Remember though that the fats in our Red Palm Oil are not hydrogenated or altered in any way. The main fatty acid in our Red Palm is oleic acid, which is also the main type of fat in olive oil. Also, Red Palm Oil is a vegetable oil and therefore does not contain any cholesterol, which is only found in animal or dairy products.
What is the different between Red Palm oil and Palm Kernel Oil?
Red Palm Oil which is made from the fruit of the oil palm is often confused with Palm Kernel Oil which is created from just the kernel (inner seed) of the oil palm fruit. They are NOT the same. Palm Kernel Oil is very similar in its fatty acid content as coconut oil. It contains mostly medium chain fatty acids. Red Palm Oil, on the other hand, contains high levels of oleic acid much like olive oil. Also, Palm Kernel Oil lacks the powerful carotenoids, tocopherols and tocotrienols found in Natural Red Palm Oil which comes from the palm fruit.
